City Board notes

August 25, 2010
The City G.A.A. Board is now down to the last four in the Patsy Nicholas Bar Gerald Griffin St. Junior A hurling championship following last weekend results but who will play who won't be known until the final two games of the competition has been completed. In this the one of the most exciting junior A hurling championships for a long time, the four semi finalists Ballybrown, Crecora, Na Piarsaigh and St. Patrick's all clinched their places following the weekend results just gone. Crecora, Old Christians and Patrickswell were all in for the final fourth spot but when results don't go your way for some, and results goes for others that was the story of this year's championship. Some clubs will only remember their last game for losing out of a place but this championship started way back on the 23rd of June and seven games later and then on the 11th of September the semi finals will be played. On Saturday evening last at Rhebogue both Old Christians and Patrickswell face each other in their final round game of the championship and nothing less than a victory was needed from both teams but in a very exciting championship game with both sides giving their best to clinch the final spot but who would expect the unexpected when both sides could not be separated. Old Christians following there great late run when they defeated Pallaskenry and St. Patrick's in recent weeks but could not take the points from Patrickswell the Rathbane side were leading by 1-06 to 1-03 at the break but in the second half Patrickswell made a last rally and pushed hard for their third victory of the championship but when the final whistle blew both teams were tied at 1-10 to Patrickswell 2-07. Following this result the game the following day between Crecora and Na Piarsaigh suddenly became the highlight of the weekend with both Patrickswell and Old Christians waiting on the wings for a right result. But by 1.30pm on Sunday afternoon Crecora filled the fourth spot of this year's competition when they had three points to spare 0-10 to 0-07 over Na Piarsaigh. The Cahirdavin side found it very hard to score when the Crecora defence played outstanding especially in the first half when Na Piarsaigh could only managed to raise the white flag twice to leave Crecora in at 0-06 to 0-02. After the short break Na Piarsaigh got more into the game and had plenty of chances but failed to convert but Crecora did rally together and all the panel put in a great effort to hold onto their lead as the Cahirdavin side try everything to get a equalising goal, but the Crecora defence held out to leave the final score at 0-10 to 0-07. On this Thursday evening at 7pm Pallaskenry will entertain Ballybrown in the junior A championship a victory for Ballybrown will put the Clarina side in pole position for the knockout stages and with the final championship league been played on September 4th between St. Patrick's and Na Piarsaigh the semi final pairings will be known then. In the Naughton's Fuel & Oil Annacotty
City minor football championship Monaleen made a late charged when they recorded two victories in three days to force a playoff for a place in the division (1) final. On Tuesday evening the Monaleen club defeated Na Piarsaigh by 2-08 to 1-09 and then three days later went on and defeated table toppers St. Patrick's by 1-14 to 1-09 while in the final game of the round robin Na Piarsaigh recorded a big win over Killulta Gaels when they hit them for 7-07 to 0-01. For the division final St. Patrick's will now wait for the winners of the playoff game between Na Piarsaigh and Monaleen when this game will take place on this Friday evening in Cahirdavin with a 6.30pm throw in the losers of this playoff will take on Killulta Gaels in the division two final, both finals will take place on Friday 3rd September. In the Horse & Hound Bar Mulgrave St. City Junior B hurling championship Patrickswell are making great in runs when they defeated Monaleen by 3-18 to 1-09 and this was followed up by receiving walkover from Abbey Sarsfields. Patrickswell with only one game remaining against Kildimo which will take place on this Thursday evening at Patrickswell a victory for the home side will put the Patrickswell club will be in pole position for the semi finals spot joining them will be Mungret, Monaleen and Kildimo. The board would like to wish all the City divisional club players and mentors the very best this weekend when the Limerick's underage teams are involved in three tournaments over the weekend. The Limerick under 16 hurling team will be in Tipperary while the under 15 hurling team will be in Cork and the under 14 hurling team will be in Waterford. A lot of time, effort and encouragement went into these teams and the board would like to wish all involved the very best and hope all teams will do themselves proud.

Thanking You
Eamonn Phelan P.R.O.
