Junior Hurlers progress to West Semi-final
Sunday 15th August was a memorable on for supporters of St Marys hurlers as we succeeded in a satisfying win over favourites Feenagh/Kilmeedy in the West Championship Quarter final. The large crowd of supporters were treated to an exciting game with many highlights to recall. The game was played in the immaculate surface in Newcastle in front of a large crowd of supporters from both clubs. Brendan Stack of Newcastlewest was the referee.
The first half saw St Marys playing into the breeze and by halftime we led 1-05 to 0-06, the goal coming from Eoghan O'Connor and all 6 points from Mark O'Sullivan.  Mid way through the 2nd half, Feenagh regained the lead with a goal to go a single point ahead. From then, we dominated the remainder of the game and further points from Mark O'Sullivan, Sean Sheahan, Kevin O'Shea and Damien Quaid along with a scrambled goal from Pat Gilbourne saw us go into a 10-point lead. Feenagh's 2nd goal was a mere consolation coming 2 minutes into injury time. At the final whistle, we led 2-17 to 2-10 to record an historic victory over the championship favourites and cement some real progress following our promotion from the B-Grade last year. For a full report on the game, refer to Johnny Walsh's article in the Weekly Observer.

Well done to the management duo of Gerry Molyneaux & Pat O'Donnell and to all the players involved. St Marys now await the result of the other quarter final between Feoganagh and Askeaton on Fri 3rd Sept to see who our semi-final opposition will be.  Should Feoghanagh win, we will face the Group-2 winners, St Kierans, in the semi-final. However, if Askeaton win this game, it will mean 3 teams from group-1 in the semi-finals. Should that outcome come to pass, a draw will be held to decide if we will play either, St Kierans(Group-2 winners ) or Croagh/Kilfinny(Group-1 winners).
Junior-A Football
This week, the attention switches to the Junior Football team are continuing with their training schedule as they prepare for the knock-out stages of the West Championship.  The quarter-finals will take place on Saturday 21st August in Newcastle West at 7pm.  Monagea will provide the opposition for Sean Finn's.   As the team from Monagea was the Waterloo for Sean Finn's in 2009, this is the ideal opportunity for our lads to overturn last year's result.  Best wishes to all concerned and especially to the management team of  Mike Barrett, Pat Neville, Niall Ryan and Johnny Mooney.
Minor Hurling - Mick Nevilles
The Minor Hurling team have played a game against St. Colman's in Coolcappagh on Tuesday 17th August at 7pm. This is a very important game for our minors as the winners will face Drom/Broadford in the West Minor-A final and the losers will face Allaughaun Gaels in the West Minor-B Final. Both these finals are fixed for Fri 27th Aug (see fixtures below). The result of the St Colmans/Mick Neville game is not available at the time of going to press.

Minor Football
Our next game in this competition will be on Tues 24th August in Ballyhahill at 7pm when we will play St. James (combination of Cappagh & Ballyhahill).  We recorded a fine win in our last outing against Glin in the bog Garden and in spite of the loss to Adare in the 2nd round, the first round win over St Senans leaves us well positioned in the group stage.
Under 16 Hurling
St. Mary's have qualified for the quarter finals from Section B of the Under 16 Hurling Championship. It is imperative that all players attend training for the next few weeks so that the team may prepare properly for the next stage of the competition.  Best wishes to Pat Madden and Brian Wilmott and all the players.
Under 16 Football Semi-Final this Wed.
We send best wishes to Sean Finn's Under 16 Football team with their management of Rob White and Barry O'Riordan  as they play the Under 16 semi-final this Wednesday 18th  August. Killuta Gaels  will provide the opposition  and the venue is to be announced.
Under-21 Football
We are graded in the premier All-county division for this competition. It is due to commence on 7th Sept with a away game against Fr Caseys. This will be quickly followed by 2 home games (v Bruff) on 14th Sept and (v Mulcair Gaels) on 21-Sept.  Top team from this group makes the semi-finals while the 2nd & 3rd placed teams will play the 2nd/3rd placed teams in the other group in the quarter finals. Qualification for the knock-out stages is well within our abilities. At this stage, it is vital that all U21 footballers are training with the juniors so if you intend to play, get on to the management team of Niall Ryan, Dinny Guiney or Seamus Dollery and start showing up at training.
U14 Football
On Monday night our U14 football team beat Kildimo in the play-off round of the u14 football championship. In doing so, we have now qualified for the county quarter final v Ballybrown on Monday next 23rd Aug. Result: Sean Finn's 4-07 Kildimo 3-00
