Limerick Camogie notes

Limerick Minor County Camogie
Limerick 5-18 , Kildare 0-01
A busy week in Limerick Camogie , our senior county girls were out , our Junior county girls got their first taste of competitive camogie , all but one of our U12 league finals were played and Ballyagran were crowned Senior league champions for the first time in 29 years , but in sying that pride of place has to go to our Minor girls . Phelim ,Jimmy and Eileen had the girls fired up for this match , not an easy job on the back of two heavy defeats for the senior and juniors . These girls hit the ground running and even though they were against a strong wind in the first half some excellent score taking from all the forwards put us in a commanding position . If you were to award a player of the match award it would have to go to the Kildare Keeper Tanya Johnston , usually a good sign for the other team . Five green flags were raised in total , with half forwards Kirsty Carroll and Katie Campbell getting one each and corner forward Rachel Carmody contributing another . Our top scorer was full forward Caroline Scanlon with 2-02 from play , some cracking goals from all four girls .
Our overall play and first touch were excellent , and with us dominating from the start our manger Phelim was able to give all five subs a run . Hard to pick out one of girls for special mention as they were all equally excellent , but mention has to go to Sarah carey and Judith Mulcahy who dominated around the middle of the park..
Well done to everyone involved and best of luck in the next round .

League Final Friday June 26th in Tournafulla
Ballyagran 2-10 Granagh-Ballingarry 1-10
An Excellent game of camogie between two very evenly matched sides , some fine score taking from Granagh from play and from Ballyagran from the dead ball . Player of the match Sharon Bulfin scoring 1-08 from placed balls was the differance between these two sides . Level at half time 0-08 a peice , the game ebbed and flowed during the opening 20 minutes of the second half , that was until "Shocks" stood up to a free from 30 yards out and broke the net with her power . Ballyagran were now on top and from the resulting puck out the ball was sent back in quickly where Rosey Rea blasted to the net, game over you would think but a late rally from Granagh with star county player Eileen O'Brien scoring a great goal .With only one score between them for the last 5 minutes it was up for grabs , but some fine defending from full back Sarah Collins kept the Granagh forwards at bay and ballyagran collected their first bit of silverware at senior level in 29 years.

Primary Schools Development Team
A marvellous days camogie in the fabulous Gaa complex in Mallow on Saturday last , that's how the parent , players and mentors described it as they left late in the afternoon with smiles on their face.
The young school girls from limerick had acquitted themselves brilliantly , playing 8 games the limerick team won 4 matches very well , drew 1 game and lost 3 very narrowly , well done to all involved , team mentors on the day Mike and Margaret Delee , Gary Shanahan , Sharon Danaher ,and Kit man Mike Mulcahy , thanks to all the parents for having the children there on time , the manner and enthusiasm of all the girls is a credit to ye. Again well done to all and thanks to Rob Lotti and his team for all their work and I am sure the girls will wear the kit they took home with them with pride.
Condolence
One man that was sadly missed on the day is head coach Timmy Larkin , Limerick County Camogie board and all the players parents and mentors that deal with Tim regularly would like to pass on their sympathy on the recent bereavement of his wife's father the late Con Enright .

U12 League
An exciting evening of Camogie last Thursday in Rathkeale and Croagh , saw the conclusion of 4 out of 5 of the U12 Leagues , in the B plate Knockaderry took an early lead against Croagh but that just seemed to spur the Croagh girls into action and they replied with eight unanserwed scores to run out easy winners in the end . The A plate produced a thriller that went down to the last few minutes , a two point lead is a dangerous one in this game put the Ballybrown girls were tough and kept the ncw girls at bay until the final whistle.Over in Croagh Na Piarsaigh won out in a very close affair against a very goog Granagh side .
The final match in Rathkeale saw Patrickswell and Templeglantine battle it out for the B league , both sides were well coached serving up some excellent camogie , some lovely score taking from both sides left the glantine girls 4 points up with time nearly up , but what a finish a goal and a point from the Well and extra time loomed .
On the up from their dramatic finish Patrickswell stormed out of the blocks in extra time and were out of sight before the glantine girls could settle , well done to all the girls , their coaches and to all the supporters that came out to watch.
Our Secretary Olive and Leens hotel sponsored a player of the match in each grade the winners on the night were Kate Mulqueen ( Ballybrown) , Sinead Mcnamara (Na Piarsaigh) Eadoin Lyons (Croagh-Kilfinny) and Ailish Burns (Patrickswell)

UL Activity Centre North Munster Camogie League 2009
The University of Limerick Activity Centre has lent its support to the North Munster Camogie League 2009. The North Munster League is a competition that was initiated in 2008 to increase the number of games for club camogie players. The aim of this league is to provide regular games for club players during the summer months, giving them a platform to prepare for their domestic championships. The League is open to clubs in Limerick, Tipperary and Clare. The 2009 competition will be open to all club players, regardless of status as members of county panels or otherwise. 22 teams in total have entered the 2009 competition. Each team will play a minimum of 6 games .Finals for Division 2 and 3 are set for Friday July 10th in the Gaelic Grounds Limerick. Division 3 final @ 6.30pm, Division 2 Final @ 8.00pm.
These dates or times will not be changed. Top two teams will contest finals so it's all to play for as there is little between several teams!
