Patrickswell GAA Notes
June 29, 2009
The senior hurlers extended their unbeaten league run with a resounding 5-18 to 2-5 defeat of Claughaun. The Well are top of Division 1B with five wins and a draw. Theres great confidence that the club s league form can extend into the County Championship and beyond.
The Junior A hurlers had mixed fortunes during the week. In the City League final, Patrickswell defeated neighbours Ballybrown by 5-7 to 3-10 in a high-scoring encounter. As City champions, the players progressed to a County League semi-final. Unfortunately, Doon were a match for Patrickswell and the East Champions won out by 1-13 to 0-13. The Junior B hurlers were also defeated by Doon, 1-18 to 2-9, in their own County League semi-final.
The Minors began their championship defence with a comfortable away win in Cooleyroe against Bunoke Gaels. The final score was 2-16 to 1-4. The Under 14 footballers beat Pallaskenry by 3-7 to 2-5 in the Championship, while our Under 16 hurlers lost 2-7 to 0-10 to Adare.
The Under 12 camogie team are the County B champions after a sixteen goal epic against Templeglantine. The girls were under pressure in the opening stages and were two goals adrift within ten minutes. They settled into the contest and responded with two goals. At the break, Templeglantine led narrowly by 2-2 to 2-1. The Well were further behind when their opponents scored a third goal to establish a 3-2 to 2-1 lead. Once again, the Well produced a swift response and levelled the game at 3-2 to 3-2. However, the title seemed to slip away from the girls as Templeglantine notched another goal and point. There was no sense of panic as another Patrickswell point set up a tense finale. Templeglantine couldn t hold possession as the Patrickswell girls equalised with seconds left, 4-3 to 4-3.
In extra-time, Patrickswell were unstoppable as they kept their momentum going. Templeglantine had no answer to the Well attack and they were blitzed by seven goals in twenty minutes of champagne camogie. At the final whistle, Patrickswell had triumphed by a massive 11-4 to 5-5.
As no entrant guessed the correct score of the Limerick vs. Waterford match, John O Donnell (Junior) was drawn as the ¬100 Lucky Dip winner.
