Connacht club SFC: Saints go marching on

November 08, 2010
A storming finish worked the oracle for St. Brigids (Roscommon) as they secured a hard-earned 1-13 to 3-5 Leinster club SFC victory over Leitrim champions Glencar/Manorhamilton when the sides met at Carrick-on-Shannon.

In what was an archetypal nip and tuck affair, Frankie Dolan put the visitors ahead but the Leitrim side dug in and were on level terms, 0-2 apiece, by the 9th minute.

The hosts then stunned their fancied opponents when Adrian Croal pounced on Brian McDonald's inviting ball to squeeze the ball into the Saints' net in the 12th minute.

Roscommon's finest refused to panic though and they hit back with interest, scoring four points against Croal's sole effort.

However the Saints dominated large tracts of the play around the centrefield area and they got their just reward in the 25th minute with a goal from Frankie Dolan helping them to a 1-6 to 1-3 interval lead.

In a quick-fire start to the match, both teams got a point apiece before James Glancy goaled for the Leitrim side.

Once more, St. Brigids came back with great vigour and hit three unanswered points.
The tide turned again though with Croal sending the ball to the Saints' net from close range four minutes from time.

The Saints had a sting in their tail though and a flurry of points from Senan Kilbride, Karl Mannion and Dolan in a two minute spell proved the death knell for the brave hosts.
