Aughnasheelin into provincial last eight
October 24, 2008
Aughnasheelin 0-11
St Molaise Gaels 0-6
After winning their first intermediate championship title a fortnight ago, Aughnasheelin are into the quarter-finals of the Connacht Intermediate Club Championships with their five-point win over St Molaise Gaels last Sunday at Markievicz Park.
Liam Higgins' side worked tirelessly to hold a 0-7 to 0-2 advantage over the Sligo champions break, with scores from Damien Gilheaney, Niall Murray, Gavin Sammon and Fergal Early forging the five-point lead.
It was the Leitrim champions who drew first blood after the restart through a Cathal Egan score, but a pair of scores from Martin Feeney kept the hosts in touch.
An interception and point from Alan Carway had the gap cut down to three soon after, but Aughnasheelin took a grip on the game from there with a brace each from substitute Brendan Mulvey and Fergal Early pointing the Leitrim outfit into the quarter-finals of the province.
