Glencar/Manor on course for double

October 17, 2008
Glencar/Manorhamilton are just 60 minutes away from completing a senior football and hurling championship double after their hurlers defeated Gortletteragh to qualify for the SHC final. Despite coming under sustained pressure in the second half, the North Leitrim outfit held on for a 0-10 to 1-4 victory. They were under pressure from the moment midfielder Michael Dolan received his marching orders in the 39th minute, but managed to maintain their three-point half-time lead, 0-4 to 0-1, up to full-time. Awaiting Glencar/Manor in the final are champions St. Mary's, who cruised to a 2-16 to 0-5 victory over Ballinamore in the other semi-final. Always in control after Breian Carroll pointed after just 10 seconds, the Carrick-on-Shannon side had victory sown up by half-time when a brace of goals from Carroll helped them to a 2-11 to 0-2 advantage.
