Garadice succeed at second attempt

October 17, 2008
Garadice Gaels retained their minor football championship crown with a thrilling 2-7 to 1-9 replay victory over St Francis at Pairc Sean Mac Diarmada last weekend. Goals from Aidan Dolan and Ciaran Gilheaney sent the winners into the break ahead 2-5 to 1-5, but they could only manage two further points in the second half as St. Francis put up a ferocious battle and would have forced extra-time had Ryan Creamer not fired wide in injury-time. A hugely relieved Garadice selector Martin Flanagan said: "We knew it was going to be a struggle, They are very well matched teams and there was only a kick of the ball in it. After three games, there was only a point separating us. "It must be disappointing for St. Francis but it is a great win for us. I don't know how it looked from the stands, but it was nerve-wracking on the line."
