Portlaoise veteran Brian 'Bruno' McCormack believes that the youngsters that have come through the ranks have rejuvenated the side.

Having lost out on their county title last year, Portlaoise were determined to regain their crown this year as manager Malachy McNulty went about making changes to the side.

Introduced to the squad were a number of younger players and McCormack told the Leinster Express they have pushed everyone else in the squad.

"They're very good, you're not guaranteed your place on this team anymore, we've got 25 or 26 on the panel," stressed McCormack.

"Our intermediates were very unlucky this year and they are building up the squad as well, Mal has used some of them in the final and it just shows how strong the panel is becoming.

"You know you have to train hard every week because you're not guaranteed your place here anymore."
