Phelan looks ahead

Laois minor football manager Laurence Phelan admits there goal at the start of the year was to reach the Leinster semi final.

Phelan's charges have overcome their first challenge by defeating Carlow in the opening round of the provincial championship last weekend.

They now have a long wait to their next match, which is the quarterfinal on May 17th, while their opponents won't be known for another week or so.

"They are a very good bunch of lads, and we're all very proud Laois men. Our plan this year was the 17th of May to get over that and get to a semi final and who knows what happens after that," Phelan told the Leinster Express.

"We'll wait on the draw, I'm not sure when it is, but we weren't thinking of that ahead of the Carlow game. We were looking at it as a first round, we were looking at it as a first round, Carlow were looking at it as their All-Ireland final. We've created that in Laois over the last number of years, although we were quiet in the last four or five years."
