McNulty to assess O'Moore talent

New Laois football boss Justin McNulty is expected to attend club championship games in the county over the coming days.

The former Armagh full back will have an early opportunity to assess the talent in the county when a full round of second round games take place this week, starting with tonight's clash between reigning Leinster club champions Portlaoise and Crettyard.

Speaking after McNulty was ratified as Sean Dempsey's successor last night, Laois chairman Brian Allen said the process of assembling a new squad would take place in the coming weeks.

"The plan starting out is to pick 60 players approximately for what he is calling 'county training sessions'. These won't be development squads," Allen said.

"Justin is asking us to get four people to oversee four teams and, over a couple of these games, a panel will be finalised. One of those in charge of the teams will be chosen as a selector.

"Justin will bring in one other selector and a back-up coach - obviously a forwards coach as he was a defender himself."
