Laois chairman backs Dempsey

Laois manager Sean Dempsey
Laois GAA chairman Brian Allen has given his full backing to under fire manager Sean Dempsey following the county Leinster SFC semi-final defeat to Kildare. The O'Moore men came out on the wrong side of a 2-18 to 0-9 result against Kieran McGeeney's chargers, which has left some supporters calling for Dempsey's resignation. "We're obviously disappointed with the way it went," said the chairman, "but we're fully behind the management. In fairness, you can't keep chopping and changing when things aren't going well for you. "I was talking to Sean on Sunday and he couldn't put his finger on it. He expected the players to be up for it and it looked that way with the way Laois started. It was disappointing the way heads dropped after the goal and they way players gave in," he added. Dempsey was given a one-year term at the start of the season, and Allen explained the Laois County Board would be "reviewing the situation at the end of the year as we do with the managements of every team."
