After-match comments from Cavan Ladies NFL Division Three success

Eamonn Lynch, the Cavan ladies footbal team- manager, was a very happy and proud man at the end of the final on Saturday afternoon, 3rd of May at Semple Stadium, Thurles. The expression on his face was one of pure joy and relief moments after the final whistle was blown. Surrounded by elated players and supporters the Gowna clubman said the second-half was a tough one to endure and the players were fully aware that they would have to fight for every ball. He said in the final quarter when the Cavan defence came under strong pressure he kept hoping they would contain the Limerick forwards. There were several fine clearances from Joanne Moore and Shaena Kieenan, as well as half-back Ailish Cornyn. Limerick manager Niall Crowley congratulated Cavan on their victory and praised their performance. He said when Limerick had Cavan against the ropes they failed to finish them off. He remarked on the great performances of the Cavan players notably Aisling Doonan, Joanne Moore, Shaena Kiernan and Ailish Cornyn. Cavan team captain, Aisling Doonan and 'player of the match' spoke of her team's belief and thanked the support of the team- management and Co. Board for their support. She also thanked the various sponsors, Imperial Bar; Tom Moore, Ballinagh and Fergal Brady, J. W. Tavern, Arva. She added that the girls dug deep in the last ten minutes of the game because she knew that if Limerick had broken through the defence it could have opened the floodgates. She added this victory was a tremendous boost for ladies football in the Breffni county, and for all the hard work and dedication given by players and officials at all levels down the years. "We will be playing in a higher division next season (division two), and all the players and officials are looking forward to the challenge and taking Cavan football a step further in the coming season.
