Lynch praises captain fantastic

May 06, 2008
After guiding his side to promotion from Division Three with the defeat of Limerick last Saturday, Cavan ladies manager Eamon Lynch has praised his team captain Aisling Doonan for efforts since taking on the role at the start of the year. The Gowna man was full of pride after his team defeated the Treaty County in Thurles to capture the Division Three title, but had plenty of praise to sing about for what his playmaker brings to the Breffni setup. "Doonan is fantastic; she's really learned the captain's role. Where ever she was needed, her performance her style, her class, everything, she was there. You couldn't ask for anymore of a captain." With players of Doonan's, Lynch has admitted that he expects Cavan to survive in Division Two next year and that the opposition they come up against next year in the league will be key in preparation for Championship football. "Cavan ladies will be playing Division 2 football next year. I think it's good for them, I think it's what they need. You need strong matches in the league coming up to your championship. Now we fought two strong matches, Limerick and Derry both. You need those matches all year. I would be very, very surprised if out girls are not fit for Division 2 football."
