Castlewellan senior ladies football 'sevens' tournament

May 01, 2008
The eighth annual 'May Steele' senior ladies invitation football 'sevens' competition will take place on Sunday, May 4th. The competition honours the memory of May Steele, the founder and President of Ladies Football in the Castlewellan area. She was also a lifelong Gael and tireless worker for the St. Malachy's Club. This earlier date for the annual competition has proved very popular with a record entry of 24 teams from Counties Antrim, Down, Derry, Armagh, Tyrone, Dublin and Monaghan. They will once again be competing for the perpetual May Steele trophy, as well as individual players prizes of bronze Cuchulainns statuettes. Belfast Crystal individual prizes will be presented to the runners-up and the club are grateful to Belfast Crystal who will this year sponsor 'the player of the tournament' trophy. In addition the 'player of the tournament' will receive an O'Neill's sports gear voucher compliments of O'Neill's Sportswear. The club are especially grateful to competition sponsor 'Property Direction', financial advisers and property agents of Main Street, Castlewellan, for their financial support of this prestigious event. The competition will commence at 10.30 a.m. with team registration between 9 and 10 a.m. The final is scheduled to take place at 5 p.m. on the same evening. There will be a winners banquet after the event, which will feature a 'live-band' dance.
