Griffin and O'Shea relishing Cork challenge
April 30, 2008
This Sunday Kerry face Cork in the Suzuki Ladies National Football League Division One final in Cusack Park, Ennis in what is sure to be a breath taking encounter as the Kingdom, unbeaten in the league so far, take on the dominant side of the modern era.
Kerry team captain Geraldine O'Shea is convinced that in order to achieve her team must overcome the likes of Cork, but admits that the Kingdom's newcomers into the squad this year will have a big test ahead of them when they face the All-Ireland Champions.
"Cork are the team that everybody wants to beat - and have to beat if you are to have a great chance of winning something. We're hoping to put it up to them, but there has been a big turnover in our team.
"We have about ten new faces, so it will be a big day for a few of them. Hopefully they will react well and learn.''
Kerry manager Robbie Griffin acknowledges that the Rebels are the stiffest opposition his side can face, but is adamant that the performance on Sunday is what will count for his players with the upcoming Championship commencing the following weekend.
"They are a team to be reckoned with - the best we have seen in the modern era. We relish the role of underdog, but it's imperative that we perform well, with the Championship the following Saturday."
