Steelstown celebrate

Steelstown from Derry city are the new Ulster Junior champions and are proof that progress is being made by Ladies Gaelic Football in the maiden city.

The youthful Steelstown team (average age 19) put in a determined second-half performance to defeat Monaghan champions O'Neills and take the title back to the north west.

'The GAA is up on the way in Derry', declared manager Thomas Cusack after the game. 'We had the highest number of girl players in the whole county last year, so we're progressing well'

Captain Emma Doherty insists there is 'plenty of talent' in the club and she hopes they will go on to help the effort at county level.
