Under 16B Munster Championship Match Report - Tipperary v Clare, Wednesday 16th April 2014

Tipperary 7-19
Clare 4-4

Attention turned to a sun drenched Lattin Cullen venue for this second round match between Tipperary Under 16B Ladies and their opponents Clare. Having opened their account with a comprehensive win against Limerick on the 6th of April, the winners from this encounter could expect to contest a Munster final in the coming weeks. Conditions for football were ideal with a fresh breeze blowing towards the dressing room end and of the pitch which was well prepared by the local club.
Once more Tipperary opened the proceedings with an early goal by Caoimhe Condon following some lovely interplay by the forwards. However it was Clare who then went on to dominate over the next fifteen minutes scoring two goals and a point without reply. Clare full forward Chloe Moloney was involved in all these scores and her direct running style was unsettling the Tipperary defence. Two Tipperary points from Lara O'Dwyer and Grainne Condon and a goal from Caoimhe Condon by the twenty first minute helped steady the side before Clare again replied with two further points from play. Tipperary's Aoibhe O'Shea kicked two points putting Tipperary ahead going into the final five minutes of the first half but again Clare replied with a goal and two points to take back the lead. With almost the last kick of the half Tipperary's Roisin Finnane blasted a shot to the Clare net leaving the half time score 3:04 apiece. Both sides had some poor wides in the half but the Clare attack was sharper and more threatening throughout. However there was no panic on the Tipperary sideline and the second half was eagerly awaited by all spectators who expected more of the same during the second half.
Half time changes saw Aishling Moloney and Christina Brennan join the action for Tipp and it was noticeable from the throw in that Tipperary had now upped their game considerably. With the Tipperary midfield now dominant the scores quickly began to mount and between the thirty first and fifty fourth minutes Tipperary scored an unanswered three goals and twelve points before Clare managed to break forward and score their only score of the second half a goal on fifty fifth minute. By this time the Tipperary management had used up all their subs and Tipperary continued to score freely. The final whistle must have come as a relief to the Clare girls and mentors but in fairness to them it was a game of two halves with Tipp completely dominant throughout the second period. It would be unfair to single out any individual player as all players upped their game when it mattered most. Lattin Cullen club player Lara O'Dwyer surely enjoyed playing on her home ground and was Tipperary's top scorer on the day with 4 - 03 from play. She was well assisted by her team mates in attack and in all eight Tipperary players contributed to the total. Tipperary had excellent performances throughout all areas and are now showing a little bit of steel in their play. They will now contest a Munster final on the April 26th at a venue to be confirmed and opponents will be Limerick who will relish another attempt against this Tipp team.
If Tipperary can maintain their progress to date and keep themselves grounded despite these comprehensive victories they will hope to advance from Munster.
