Kilkenny stalwart Michael Kavanagh has yet to make a decision about his intercounty future.
The spotlight has switched to the decorated defender following the retirements of James 'Cha' Fitzpatrick, Eddie Brennan and PJ Ryan from Brian Cody's all-conquering squad, but County Board secretary Ned Quinn says the 32-year-old has yet to make his intentions clear, with the 2012 season looming.
Quinn adds that the veteran Cats star will be given as much time as he needs to reach a decision.
The St Lachtain's corner back has won eight All-Ireland SHC medals, four All Stars, five national hurling leagues and 13 Leinster SHCs during the course of an extraordinary career at the highest level.
It was falsely reported that he had retired from intercounty hurling after the 2010 All-Ireland final loss to Tipperary. He stayed on but was unable to get game time due to the emergence of All Star Paul Murphy in the full-back line.
Should he decide to remain on for another season, Kavanagh would probably be understudy to Murphy again, but he has a wealth of experience to offer the squad and would be a great man to have on the sideline.
