Fennelly takes nothing for granted

Kilkenny's Michael Fennelly
Kilkenny midfielder Michael Fennelly has earned rave reviews for his performances this year, but last year's captain stressed that he is just relieved to be in the side.

Fennelly failed to nail down a regular place in the side last year and was introduced as a late substitute in the All-Ireland final win over Tipperary.

However, following a string of fine performances this year including last Sunday's win over Cork, the Ballyhale Shamrocks clubman looks a sure bet to start the All-Ireland final, but he stressed that with Kilkenny you are never guaranteed your place.

"It is a bit of a relief every time the team is picked and you are on it," said Fennelly. "No one every takes anything like being on the team for granted.

"If you are in you are happy, but you never take it for granted that you will be on. Martin Comerford, a good experienced player was left off against Cork which must be a tough call. But when he got a chance during the match he took it."
