Ring Cup: Lilies bloom in second-half

Kildare 2-18
Mayo 1-16

Holders Kildare came from behind to advance to the quarter-final stages of the Christy Ring Cup at Mayo's expense in Ballina today.

Despite losing Johnny Byrne to a red card in the first-half, the Lilywhites overturned a nine-point half-time deficit (0-5 to 1-11) to get their title defence back on track following the disappointment of last weekend's replay defeat to London

A goal from Mayo dual star Keith Higgins put Brian Lawlor's charges on the back foot in the opening period but they subsequently outscored their hosts by 2-13 to 0-5 after the resumption.

Willie Greene initiated the comeback when finding the back of the Mayo net in the 41st minute and the Connacht outfit must now turn their attention to a relegation play-off.
