Our u10s welcomed Castlemitchel and Monasterevin to Stephen O Rourke Memorial Park for the final round of blitzs this summer. The lads came out with a win and a defeat from their two games and are working hard in preparation for the league thats due to start very shortly
Oue summer camp came and went during the week. A total of 87 children enrolled this which was up on last years total. Many thanks to Taidg and his team of coaches who looked after the kids really well this year. Kildare star Mark Scanlon arrived on Friday to sign the jerseys of all the children who attended the campduring the week. Thanks to all our helpers this year Geggy and Podge Sarah and Niamh also thanks to Dean and Alex and Katelyn Michelle and Stephanie who all assisted the coaches throughout the week. No doubt this type of training will help these young coaches in the years to come when they themselves get teams of their own. Thanks to Barbara and Joanne who thanks to their cooking during the week have caused Taidg and his team to pile on the pounds. This is our second year to run the camp and its proving to be a huge success and without these types of volunteers it wouldn't be the success so many thanks to all of ye from Ballykelly GFC
It was the stuff of dreams over the weekend as the Monasterevin Parish u12 girls team captured the All Ireland title after a memorable game against Corrafin of Galway. They travelled in their numbers on Saturday to play Baileboro of Cavan in the semi final. They watched Corrafin easily dispose of Glanmire of Cork in the other semi and the knew the magnitude of the task before them. The girls beat Balieboro in their semi final on a scoreline of Monasterevin 2.13 Baileboro 2.3. They travelled home in fine spirits and got a good nights rest in preparation of the task ahead of them. They started the final in determined fashion and never let Corrafin settle. They went in at the break leading by 2.6 to 0.2. The second half was more of the same from the girls with them eventually running out winners on a scoreline of Monasterevin 3.15 Corrafin 3.5. Congratulations to each and every player on this historic achievement and we look forward to seeing you holding tropies aloft for many years to come. The panel in full were Alanna McLoughlin, Aine Nash, Amy Nash, Julia Marron, Sarah Hanlon, Claire Melia, Claire Earley, Aishling Kehoe, Caoimhe Holligan, Anna Delaney, Laura Cleary, Sarah Walsh, Lara Gilbert, Grace Dooley, Shauna Bond, Orla O Donavan, Chloe Carroll, Lauran Kelly, Katie Nealon and Aoife Stapleton.
