Ref no show halts SHC match
August 20, 2010
The failure of the Referees Administration Committee to find a late replacement to officiate at the senior hurling championship clash between Coill Dubh and Leixlip forced the game to be called off after both sides had taken to the field.
The sides were due to meet in Clane last Sunday, but Declan Peppard, who was originally to appointed to referee the match contacted officials on Saturday to say that he couldn't oversee the match.
An administration error meant that a replacement wasn't appointed and both sides took to the match and waited for a referee to turn up. Clane official Paddy Moore did offer his services, but Leixlip objected to this as Clane are in the same group.
At the 13th hour Sarsfields' referee Brendan Cawley answered the SOS call, but by this stage both sets of players had left the field.
