Kildare Update
March 09, 2010
Kildare took up where they left off prior to the break in the National Football League when they followed up their victory over Tipperary with a comprehensive defeat of Donegal in Newbridge on Sunday. The Lilies played some good football throughout and manager Kieran McGeeney will be pleased with the way his team has reacted following their heavy opening round defeat to Down. Captain John Doyle made a welcome return to the team following his 4 week suspension and he looked hungry for the ball throughout the game. McGeeneyís men now face Armagh in Crossmaglen next Sunday in what will be a vital game in the race for promotion.
Kildare still have some injury concerns with Anthony Rainbow, Rob Kelly and Brian Flanagan all missing Sundayís game. All three will hope that they recover sufficiently this week to put themselves back in contention for a starting position. Goalkeeper Paul Flood has also joined the panel after several years away from the county scene. The Maynooth shot-stopper had a very good season as his club progressed to the All Ireland Intermediate Club Championship and was added to the panel in advance of last Sundayís game against Donegal. Mikey Conway, Eamonn Callaghan and Philip Hennessy are all continuing their respective recoveries from long-term injuries. They are still several weeks away from taking a full part in training, but all three are making steady progress and thankfully have suffered no setbacks to date. Morgan OíFlaherty will miss the Armagh game due to suspension, but he will then be available for selection for the following game at home to Westmeath.
