Desmonds reveal financial problems

One of Kerry's top GAA clubs has appealed to the public for support in a bid to avoid going bankrupt.
Former All-Ireland club champions Castleisland Desmonds, who supplied goalkeeper Charlie Nelligan to the great Kerry team of the late 1970s and 1980s, have issued a letter to club members revealing the seriousness of the situation which has been caused by a lack of sponsorship and a dramatic fall in fundraising income.
"We have facilities with the bank to a maximum limit of €80,000. We can spend another €2,500 before that limit is reached and we can't write cheques after that," a spokesman told The Irish Times.
Desmonds are seeking donations of €100 from at least 300 members. Whereas over 400 people backed the initiative three years ago, support dropped to just 250 last year.
