Munster MHC: McCarthy goes to town on Kerry
May 03, 2012
Tipperary 6-21
Kerry 0-11
Mark McCarthy helped himself to 3-1 as Tipperary cruised past Kerry's challenge in last night's Munster MHC opener at Semple Stadium.
The home side and raging hot favourites were out of sight by half-time when leading 3-10 to 0-5. Kevin Slattery scored an early goal, and while Kerry fought back to level by the 10th minute, the outcome was never in doubt after McCarthy pounced for Tipperary's second goal.
McCarthy netted again in the 25th minute, and Kerry would have been even further behind but for the excellent goalkeeping of Jason Wallice.
It continued to be one-way traffic in the second half with John McGrath blasting home a penalty before impressive corner forward McCarthy completed his hat-trick.
