Paul Galvin fears that Kerry will be left behind other counties if they don't develop a new Centre of Excellence shortly.
Speaking on Setanta's iTalk Sport yesterday, the former Footballer of the Year believes Kerry were found wanting in the physical stakes in last Sunday week's Allianz Football League defeat to Mayo, and need to embrace sports science more.
"I felt it last year against Mayo when we played them in the All-Ireland semi-final - there was something different about them," he said.
"They were certainly more athletic and were well conditioned. Good conditioning not only improves your physicality, it gives you an inner belief and a psychological edge. Mayo have a touch of that about them.
"We can certainly improve our conditioning.
"I think in Kerry there is a need for investment in facilities. There's actually no centre, no headquarters where you can have a holistic approach and get U12s, 14s, 16s, minors, U21s and seniors together.
"It seems more and more apparent to me that senior All-Irelands today are being won with sports science."
