Former All-Ireland winning goalkeeper Diarmuid Murphy could replace Eamonn Fitzmaurice as a Kerry football selector.

Jack O'Connor is set to be ratified for a third year as Kerry manager tonight and Dingle clubman Murphy is expected to be included in his new management team. It is understood that O'Connor has had discussions with a number of potential new selectors, including former Limerick coach Donie Buckley, but Murphy has emerged as a surprise candidate to work alongside O'Connor and outgoing selector Ger O'Keeffe.

Former All-Star Murphy, who announced his retirement from inter-county football after last year's All-Ireland final victory over Cork, is a shrewd reader of the game and would be a popular choice for the role.

Kerry chairman Jerome Conway said: "I will be placing the name of a senior trainer and a management team before the county committee for ratification. There is plenty of speculation about the names of the individuals involved and I am not going to add to the speculation."
