Veteran RTE broadcaster Michael O'Muircheartaigh celebrated his 80th birthday in a novel way by climbing Mount Bandon in County Kerry as along with family and close friends.

Twenty three of the Kerry native's relative and friends joined in the celebration as the scaled the mountain and he was then interviewed on RTE Raidió na Gaeltachta.

Earlier in the week, the legendary broadcaster vowed to continue broadcasting on the radio with his career spanning eight decades and dating back to St Patrick's Day 1949.

A special tribute to O'Muircheartaigh will be held on Raidió na Gaeltachta on September 10th when Sean Ban Breathnach will interview special guests and speak about the presenter's career in radio and television. Tweet
