We did it for O'Donoghue - South Kerry boss
August 20, 2010
South Kerry U-21 manager John Shanahan has paid tribute to his side following victory in the county championship final, which he dedicated to absent skipper Paul O'Donoghue.
O'Donoghue, a member of the Kerry U-21 side this year, sat out last week's decider against West Kerry through injury.
However, South Kerry overcame his absence to claim a two-point victory (1-13 to 2-8), with forwards Damien Kelly and Ian Galvin firing 1-8 from play between them to spearhead the victory.
Quoted in the Kerryman, Shanahan dedicated the victory to his absent captain. He said, "We felt our bench was strong enough coming into the game even with the loss of a few players.
"The panel is very strong and a lot of these guys have played in Corn Ui Mhuiri and Hogan Cup finals and they know exactly what to do … It was an inspiration for us to do this for Paul O'Donoghue because he has given a great effort all year and we are absolutely delighted."
