O'Connor defends 'innocent' Galvin

Kerry boss Jack O'Connor has hit out at the decision of the Central Hearings Committee to uphold Paul Galvin's eight-week suspension after he was sent of against Cork last month.

The ban is set to rule the Finuge man out of action for the Kingdom until their last NFL game against Monaghan next month and O'Connor says that Kerry are "extremely frustrated" with the situation as they believe that the current 'Footballer of the Year' is innocent of any wrong doing.

"I saw the incident live and watched it again several times on video and it's clear that Paul is 100 percent innocent. We're extremely frustrated because the video shows that he wasn't guilty of striking," said O'Connor.

O'Connor has also been aggravated by claims that Galvin's actions against Cork defender Eoghan Cadogan left his opponent needing dental treatment.

"Eoghan Cadogan was treated for a mouth injury three or four minutes before the incident with Paul. That's a fact - Paul had nothing whatsoever to do with it.

"Paul is gone for eight weeks and, as far as we're concerned, that's the end of it, but in the interests of fairness this kind of thing can't be allowed to happen again," he added.

"Referees are under pressure to apply zero tolerance and while I have no problem with that, respect between players and referees has to operate both ways.

"As far as I'm concerned, what has happened to Paul Galvin is totally wrong."

The Kerry manager has also brushed aside rumours that the forward could be considering hanging up his boots after his latest ban, saying: "Paul Galvin has come through tougher things than this."
