O'Rahillys withdrawal threat

July 03, 2009
Kerins O'Rahillys are threatening to pull out of the 2009 Kerry U21 football championship. They have suggested they won't play in the competition unless they are allowed to field their three county senior players (including Tommy Walsh). Playing without the trio, they insist, would leave them at a major disadvantage. However, county secretary Peter Twiss pointed out that - while he sympathises with the O'Rahillys plight - the championship would run into December if the County Board bowed to their request. Delegate Sean Kissane says the Strand Street club will now consider withdrawing. O'Rahillys received a first-round Bye in the draw for the competition and are due to face the winners of Shannon Rangers V West Kerry.
