O'Mahony in fitness battle

Kerry's Aidan O'Mahony
Aidan O'Mahony is facing a race against time to be fit for Kerry's opening game of the All-Ireland qualifiers on July 11. The centre back damaged his shoulder in the first half of last Saturday's Munster SFC semi-final replay loss to Cork, and required a pain-killing injection at half-time. He will miss his club Rathmore's Kerry SFC clash with South Kerry on Saturday evening as his shoulder is now heavily strapped. Kerry manager Jack O'Connor's injury worries don't end there. Corner back Marc O Se was replaced at half-time last Saturday after pulling a hamstring, while Tommy Walsh was also substituted after carrying an ankle injury into the game. Kieran Donaghy is unlikely to recover from a broken foot in time, while Anthony Maher remains sidelined with strained ankle ligaments. But Mike McCarthy's decision to come out of retirement should give the Kingdom a boost in the quest to emerge from the qualifier minefield.
