Dublin will be sending out a strong representative team to the World Handball championships that will take place in Edmonton Canada from August 4th-13th next writes Michael McGee St. Brigid's Club in Blanchardstown will be sending out 3 representatives Susan Keegan, Maria McCarthy and Eoin Kennedy. Father & son Richard and Rory Downey from the Naomh Padraig Club will also be attending. Na Fianna will have 3 Juvenile representatives Cathal & John Walsh along with Ciaran O' Sullivan. Egin Jensen, Jimmy Heffernan, Vinnie Farrelly, John Molloy, Ian Griffin will also make the trip. Brian Borus club in Goatstown will have 2 representatives in Michael McGee and Marcus Henry. McGee has attended 4 Canadian Nationals in the last 6 years. The former Meath player won the Canadian C singles and doubles in Vancouver back in 2002 and is expected to do well. Eoin Kennedy is fancied to do very well in the Open singles and with partner Egin Jensen (2005 All-Ireland Senior Doubles 40 x 20, 60 x 30 champions) and could go all the way in the open doubles. Eoin Kennedy and Egin Jensen have happy memory's of their last visit to Canada in 2001. Eoin Kennedy won the Canadian singles in Halifax Nova Scotia beating Canadian number 1 Merv Deckertt in the final. Egin Jensen teamed up with former Canadian handball President Ian Ross to win the doubles with an 11-10 tie break win over Merv Deckertt and Kevin Kopchuk. Eoin Kennedy is in 2 All-Ireland 60 x 30 singles and doubles (with Egin Jensen) to look forward to when they return from Canada. I asked Eoin Kennedy how much training would he have put in since the beginning of the year for the World championships. "I have been training very hard all year. It is been a big long build up to this. My own training has been hampered a little bit because of the 60 x 30 season. I only really started training for the 40 x 20 3 weeks ago. I have been playing in the big court for 2 months before that. I m a little bit rusty but hoping to sharpen up over the next few weeks said Kennedy" I asked Eoin that having seen Paul Brady winning the U.S. titles having ran the World champion close in the All-Ireland final that he must be confident of doing well. "I know on the day I am capable of beating anyone if I play well. One of the problems I am faced with compared to Paul Brady and Tony Healy is the fact I am trying to play 60 x 30 and 40 x 20 codes together. I am going to find it tough but going to do my best. I still have 2 All-Ireland finals to look forward too when I return" I asked Eoin what advise would he give to the young Dublin players taking part. "I would say just enjoy it. They will learn so much during the time away. On my first trip away in Chicago when I was 14 a year later I was a different player because of that experience and gained a new enthusiasm for the game" Final question I put to Eoin that he has 2 All-Ireland Senior 60 x 30 finals to look forward to in September and what is his thoughts on that. "They are going to be two very tough games. Tom Sheridan from Meath in the singles is a serious competitor very strong with both hands particular with the left hand. Egin and I in the doubles against Wexford both Wexford players are young and strong. It's going to be hard but myself and Egin will be hoping to win it. We will wait and see concluded Kennedy" Tweet
