Handball: shock as Brady crashes out

Four in a row for Cavan's Paul Brady
There was a surprise at the weekend when Paul Brady tumbled out of the WPH Players Championship finals in Salt Lake City at the quarter-finals stage.

Young Armando Ortiz from the outskirts of Los Angeles actually chose to play the Cavan man in the quarter-finals and kept his cool to record a stunning 15-21, 21-12, 11-5 victory.

It was only Brady's second-ever defeat in almost ten years playing in the States but he was out of sorts as the confident Californian came back from behind to book his place in the semi-finals.

"I knew what I had to do and I did it," Ortiz buzzed. "I grew up idolising Paul and I always wanted to beat him."

However, his moment of glory was short-lived as another Irishman, Robert McCarthy, who had earlier eliminated No.2 seed Emmett Peixoto, send him packing to set up a final date with Luis Moreno.
