Great achievement by McNamee

World Handball Championships Dublin 2012
Local Ballybofey girl Avril McNamee represented Sean mac Cumhaills in the World Handball championships in Dublin earlier on this month.
Avril's first match was against Laura Mannion from Roscommon, which she won comfortably. Her second match was against Lisa McAleer from County Tyrone. Lisa is a player that Avril has looked up to for many years, as she embodies all that is good in the sport.
Avril had rough start and lost the opening game, but upped her game and was narrowly beaten 21-17. Avril's third opponent Kara Smith came from Minessota, America and it was something she had looked forward to as the Americans have a very different style of play to the Irish.
Avril won the first game and battled through the pain barrier with injury to win her match. Quarter final stage and Avril was up against the number 1 seed. Pauline Gallagher from Mayo was always going to be Avrils toughest match. Avril couldn't get started in the first game and the number 1 seed closed out the opening game. Avril played far better in the second game but it just wasn't to be her day. Pauline Gallagher went on to win the Worlds Women's A Championship.
To get to the quarter finals of The World Championships is a massive achievement and everyone is so proud of Avril. Avril you're a credit to yourself, your family and to your club.
