Curley denies politics plays part in ref appointments

Mick Curley Chairman of the National Referee's Committee
National Referees' chairman Mick Curley has hit back at claims made by the newly-formed Gaelic Match Officials Association (GMOA) that politics plays a major part in refereeing appointments.

The breakaway group claims the same referees are getting all the big games, but Curley rejected this when saying in the Irish Daily Star: "If that's what they are coming at I wouldn't agree with it.

"Any time we have meetings with referees it's an open forum. We have always tried to promote openness. There is no point bringing referees to seminars and meetings if they are not going to be open to them if they have some issues.

"The only thing I'd be worried about is there is already a representative body there."
