August 25, 2010
Senior team produced a battling displaying on Saturday evening to defeat Milltown in the league. Cortoon started brightly and Derek Savage opened the scoring with a pointed free. Six minutes in Fergal Heverin set off on a run towards the Milltown goal and from at least twenty five yards out unleashed a cracking shot that eluded the goalkeeper and dipped under the crossbar. Milltown were still creating chances and raised green flags on the 14th and 24th minute either side of a Derek Savage point to take the lead. Two further points from Savage and Shane Gilmore regained the lead for Cortoon 1-5 to 2-1 at half time. The second half started with Milltown hitting the post on their first attack. Brian Walsh then pointed to double Cortoon's advantage. Milltown reeled of the next two points to level matters before Cathal Mulryan drifted up from wing back to curl over the lead point for Cortoon. A great run down the left by Alan Boyle saw him release Brian Walsh, who in turn, found David Warde who slotted his second point of the evening. Milltown reduced the deficit to one point again.
