Talty "a contender" for Galway job

Former Galway midfielder Brian Talty is reportedly a contender for the vacant manager's position in his native county, according to a local media report.

Kevin Walsh, who has steered Sligo to successive league promotions and victory over Mayo and Galway in the Connacht championship this year, is regarded as the hot favourite to succeed Joe Kernan in the job.

However, the Tuam Herald claims that Talty, who was a candidate for the job when Peter Ford was appointed in 2005, is again under consideration.

Talty enjoyed a successful playing career with the Tribesmen in the 1970s and '80s, winning a National Football League medal in 1981 and playing on the losing All-Ireland final side two years later.

Since the end of his playing days, he has forged a solid reputation in Dublin, having spent time on the management tickets of the county minors, under-21s and seniors, where he was one of Paul Caffrey's selectors in recent years.
