Senior championship warms up for quarter-final weekend
August 13, 2010
The eight remaining sides in contention to lift the Galway senior football championship are all in action this weekend as the quarter-finals take centre stage.
Defending champions Corofin, who are bidding to lift the cup for the third successive year and the fourth time in five seasons, take on Caherlistrane in the fourth and final quarter-final at Tuam Stadium on Sunday evening.
The champions have had fitness concerns over Galway senior stars Kieran Fitzgerald and Gary Sice while they go into this game on the back of a six-point defeat to An Cheathru Rua (0-12 to 0-6) in the league last weekend.
The first of the weekend games sees Barna attempt to reach the last four of the senior championship for the first time when they take on similarly unheralded Annaghdown at Pearse Stadium.
On Sunday afternoon, also in Salthill, Moycullen take on Padraic Joyce's Killererin while the first part of a Sunday evening double-header in Tuam sees Milltown take on last year's beaten finalists Mountbellew/Moylough.
Galway SFC quarter-finals:
Barna v Annaghdown (Pearse Stadium, 6.45pm, Saturday)
Moycullen v Killererin (Pearse Stadium, 3.45pm, Sunday)
Milltown v Mountbellew/Moylough (Tuam Stadium, 5pm, Sunday)
Corofin v Caherlistrane (Tuam Stadium, 6.45pm, Sunday)
