Hayes in fitness battle

Galway's Damien Hayes
Galway hurling boss John McIntyre is sweating on the fitness of corner forward Damien Hayes ahead of Saturday week's All-Ireland qualifier against Clare.
The Portumna clubman suffered a recurrence of a calf injury in a club championship match against Turloughmore last weekend, and McIntyre admits he is a big doubt for the Cusack Park showdown.
"Damien carried the calf injury into the club game and, unfortunately, he aggravated it," he said.
"Damien's condition is a major worry and we're just keeping our fingers crossed he will be available. He will be receiving ongoing treatment and with nine days still to the match, hopefully he will make sufficient improvement to be available for selection."
McIntyre must plan without the suspended Richie Murray, who received a straight red card in the Leinster SHC semi-final defeat to Kilkenny, but goalkeeper James Skehill is available again after recovering from injury.
