Lotto- There was no winner in our draw for a jackpot of 14,050, which was held in Varley's. Numbers drawn were 2,17,24,28. We had one match 3- Michael Forde, Keernaun, Headford. Promoters prize went to Billy Cunningham.
Next weeks draw for a jackpot of 14,200 will be held in The Tavern on Sunday June 28th. Tickets are 2 or 3 for 5 and can be bought from all shops and pubs around the town.
Junior A's defeated Cortoon Shamrocks on Sunday in the first round of the championship in Tuam Stadium, 1-14 to 0-10. It was a far from convincing performance and we will have to improve greatly if we are to challenge for silverware. We started slowly and went 0-4 to 0-1 down. However three points each from Thomas Lee and Niall Meeneghan dragged us back into the game and by half time we were 0-6 to 0-4 ahead, having played with the breeze. We got the ideal start to the second half, winning the throw in and sending the ball in long to the edge of the square where Shane Walsh bravely punched it to the net. We played much better in the second half and Sean Meeneghan came well into the game, kicking four points. Enda Hannon came on late and kicked a fine point. Man of the match for us was Thomas Lee, we wouldn't have won the game without him. Bryan Carey was outstanding at corner back while Colm Kyne and Kevin Carey completed a rock solid full back line. Eric Flynn did trojan work at wing forward, helping the defence and supplying ball to the attack. The scoring ability of the Meeneghan brothers was vital as usual, combining for ten points. Team- Neil Walsh, Bryan Carey, Colm Kyne, Kevin Carey, Brian Bane, Joe Keane, Ronan Higgins, Eoin McHugh (Cpt), Adrian Watters, Clive Sullivan, Niall Meeneghan (0-6,3f), Eric Flynn, Sean Meeneghan (0-4,3f), Thomas Lee(0-3), Shane Walsh(1-0). Subs used- Enda Hannon (0-1) for Shane Walsh, Noel Gibsey for Adrian Watters. We are due to play Killererin on Saturday at 7pm in Headford in the league.
