TUAM STARS The AGM of the club took place last Friday evening in the new Complex. There was a minute's silence for our deceased members. The club secretary Ian Doyle read the minutes of last year's AGM and they were passed. Ian Doyle, Club secretary, gave a comprehensive report on the activities of the club for 2008. He thanked all those helped out with various teams over the year: Senior manager Mickey Byrne and his selectors Paul O'Rourke, Michael McGough for their work with the senior team, and the senior team's promotion to the Section A League. He congratulated the U-21 team on winning the County title, and he went on to wish Mickey Byrne, Paul O'Rourke and Michael McGough all the best in the future as they have completed their term. He thanked Paul O'Rourke and Martin Noone for their work with the Junior A team; Aengus Doherty, John Dooley and Paul Collins for looking after the Junior B and C teams; the Minor team management of Gerry Bodkin and Geoff Barrows for their efforts, and all involved in the organising of the special celebration of the "Zenith of the Stars" last June. Martin Noone, treasurer, gave the financial report on the running of the club for the year. He outlined the various fundraising activities, Golf Classic, Night of the Dogs and membership etc. He thanked Ron·n Long for his sponsorship of the club; the Golf Classic committee for their work and all who supported and sponsored the Golf Classic, and the Night at the Dogs. Alan Talty gave the Lotto report on behalf of Cathal McGinn and urged that everyone try and get new people to be members in the Lotto and sell the tickets in the pubs at the weekend. Club chairman Alan Talty in his address welcomed everyone to the meeting. He thanked the officers and the committee, and Club coaching officer John Tobin for his work. He then thanked the managers of the various teams; Club referees for taking charge of challenge games over the year; Ron·n Long, our main sponsor, and all who sponsored and supported the Golf Classic and the Night at the Dogs; Arthur Ward and Seamus Kelly for their work in the club; the schools and the Stadium Committee for the use of their pitches, and the officers and the committee for their co-operation. His dearest wish was to have the Frank Fox Trophy back in Tuam in 2009. He also congratulated Tuam /Cortoon Ladies Football Club on their achievements in the past year. As we come to the end of the year the sponsorship of our adult teams' deal with Ron·n Long of Property Partners Long Estate Agents comes to an end with his three years of generous sponsorship. We thank Ron·n and wish him all the best for the future. We are currently looking for a new sponsor for our adult teams; for more details please contact our Club chairman Alan Talty. The U-12 panel had a very enjoyable day in Croke Park last Thursday in the Play and Stay tournament, As well as playing in matches, they got a tour of museum. Thanks again to all concerned; it was a proud day and hopefully these lads will return to play in "Croker" and emulate our former Stars. Under-age AGM soon. Our pitch is now closed for the rest of the year, for repair work. Our Lotto draw in association with Tuam Shopping Centre for a jackpot of Ä9,350 was not won outright from numbers 12, 21, 22, 27. The ten Ä50 winners were John Purcell (member), Carmel Dolan (Leos), Michael Murphy (member), Luke Cloonan (Jimmy O'Mara), Fergus Lynch (Snug), Laura Collins (Veg Shop), Gerry Flynn (Dick Fahy's), Tom Henderson (Brogue), Sheila O'Connor (Reapys) and Mary Smyth (Denis O'Donnell). On Lotto duty for the next few weeks: Monday, December 22nd in The Cellar Bar are Cathal McGinn and Kevin Larkin; Monday, Dec. 29th in McDonaghs are Alan Talty and John Dooley; Monday, January 5th in The Bridge Bar, Michael McGough and Adrian O'Connor. Our Lotto draw for 22nd the Club is going to play Santa Claus - for our ten Ä25 winners we are going to increase it to Ä50! So buy early to avoid disappointment. Tickets can be purchased at a number of outlets in the town or from our Lotto agents. Ä2 can go a long way in helping us to develop facilities for our youth in the town. There are a few DVDs available of the U-21 County final victory over St James's. These can be had by contacting Alan Talty. They would be a nice keepsake for years to come and would make an ideal Christmas present.
