Sammon handed under-21 reins

Galway senior football manager Liam Sammon will oversee the fortunes of the county under-21 squad next year also. Stephen Joyce had been in charge of the side for the past two years, but he has decided to step down and Sammon feels that it makes sense for the two squads to train together. "The two year term of the last under-21 management team, under Stephen Joyce, was up and we feel that it would be a natural progression for us to take over," said Sammon. "Their championship season starts in March and it's a very busy time for that age group. They will all be playing in the FBD League and the Sigerson Cup. January to April will be a hectic time for them. "So many of them are now on the senior panel that it made sense to bring them all in, rather than having them training at two different venues. You get to see how players are developing in training, what level they are at, and there are players out there that I might not get to see until later in the year."
