FL4: Fermanagh too strong for Exiles
February 19, 2012
Fermanagh beat London by 2-15 to 0-9 at Ruislip this afternoon.
With victory in this rearranged fixture, the Ernesiders are now joint-top of Division Four with co-favourites Limerick, having won both their opening games.
Winning manager Peter Canavan suggested in his post-match interview that the scoreline had flattered his side but, in truth, the border county never had to move out of second gear as they easily avenged last summer's qualifiers defeat at the hands of the same opposition.
The visitors were fastest out of the blocks with points from Seamus and Sean Quigley, Paul Ward and Tomas Corrigan to lead by 0-5 to no score, but London got back to within two points thanks to the scoring efforts of Sean Hannon, Mark Gottsche and Eoin O'Neill - 0-7 to 0-5.
However, Eoin Donnelly and Barry Mulrone pointed and Seamus Quigley's penalty following a foul on Ward proved critical as the northerners assumed a commanding 1-9 to 0-5 interval advantage.
The margin went out to twelve as Ward, Seamus Quigley and Shane Lyons piled on the pain. To their credit, the Exiles upped the ante and had a dominant quarter-of-an-hour as they halved the leeway to six.
But Fermanagh responded well to pull away again and Ryan Keenan's late goal iced the cake.
