Peter Canavan put Fermanagh's slow start against Clare in last Sunday's Allianz Football League tie down to the fact that they had no game the previous weekend.

The Erne County were due to open their Division 4 campaign against London last Sunday week, only for the game to be called off due to snow on the Ruislip pitch.

"I think it probably showed that we had no game last week," the Fermanagh boss said.

"We were a bit rusty and we were a bit slow to get up to match speed. It was obvious that Clare had a game and they came in better prepared and started the game much better and much slicker. But gradually we got to grips and we deserved to win in the end."

Canavan claimed that Clare are a better team that they are given credit for.

"Last year they were very unlucky not to beat Down in the qualifiers so they are not as bad as people make them out to be and they would have serious ambitions of getting out of Division 4 and some of their play was excellent. I mean (David) Tubridy up front would get on any team."
