In the Round "1" of the Inaugural Tain Senior Hurling League, hosts Strabane held out by narrow margin of single point, defeating their Lisbellaw visitors, with a score of 2 goals 12 points to 1 goal 14 points. This was a hugely competitive one hour of senior hurling, with no less than 8 draws in the opening half, and with telling scores 1 goal 8 points apiece the scene was set for second half competitive encounter. They Strabane side were first up out of the starting blocks with firstly a point and then a morale boosting second goal. However whilst they Shamrocks were encamped in the St Patrick's half for a six minutes they Strabane side only succeeded wasting a half dozen chances of scores by pucking the slithor wide. History deplores a vacuum, and they scoring time was quickly taken with further two points by visitors Lisbellaw. Despite that scoring success they Shamrocks hosts retained they lead right up and till they games end. Ironically it was Lisbellaw attackers who pucked over the last two points, but two points short of an outright victory. St Patrick's management used the occasion tom introduce three future hurling stars, Colum Mc Phillip's who lined out in goals and Tommy Cleary who was inserted at left half back, had a positive hour's hurling. Ciaran Corrigan, who was number three on the Lisbellaw subs., bench, came on in the games' dying minutes. Far too late to have any noticeable impact on the outcome this match. Chrissy Corry another new player was available on the bench.

The loosing of this game by they St Patrick's visitors, was due solely to their established players indecision in front of their opponent's goal. Anxiously deciding whether to go for a match winning goal or tap over for a more mundane point. Unquestionably Strabane's match winner was their mid-fielder Mark Kane, who registered an impressive total of 1 goal 5 points over the hour.
