Canavan wants Fermanagh to be more ruthless

Fermanagh manager Peter Canavan
Peter Canavan wasn't entirely pleased with Fermanagh's McKenna Cup victory over Queen's University at Brewster Park.

Despite their nine-point winning margin and another superb display by full forward Seamus Quigley, who bagged 1-8 for the second week running, the new Erne County boss still found fault with his side's finishing.

"In the first half, for the amount of possession we had, we didn't get a good enough return from our forwards. I think Queen's had six shots in the first half and scored five times, whereas we missed a lot - there were balls that went wide, others than went short," Canavan said.

Asked about Quigley once again accounting for the bulk of Fermanagh's tally, the manager replied: "Of course you can't expect any player to get 1-8 every day so you're going to have to get other players on the scoresheet. But at least there are chances being created and that's the important thing. I wouldn't discourage boys from having a shot."
