Offaly leave it late

January 08, 2007
Offaly 2-11 UCD 2-06 Offaly took time to find their feet in this O'Byrne Cup clash against UCD, but eventually got on top following a number of inspired half time substitutions by new manager Pat Roe, which saw them run out five-point winners at O'Connor Park, Tullamore. The Students lead by a goal at half time after Cathal O'Dwyer beat Padraig Kelly after Offaly had wasted a number of scoring opportunities in the opening 35 minutes. However, Roe saw the need for changes and the introduction of Neville Coughlan, Kieran Hogan and Thomas Deehan saw the pendulum swing in Offaly's favour. Just 12 minutes into the second half and Scott Brady scored a cracking goal to restore parity, but UCD immediately hit back with their second goal from James Brogan. The visitor's lead by two-points at this stage. Offaly seemed to step up to another level following UCD's goal and they scored 1-4 without reply with Sean Ryan getting the Faithful's second.
