The GAAmbler: Brave Westmeath to go down fighting

Unfortunately the GAAmbler was on holidays last week in sunnier shores and was unable to remove himself from the bar to write this article, but if you have been following our twitter account @TheGAAmbler1 you would have been given two winning bets over the weekend. This weekend we preview the clash of Longford and Cork, as well as our NAP from the Leinster final.

Westmeath take on the Dubs on Sunday which is a repeat of last year's game in which Dublin won on a scoreline of  2.13 to Westmeath's 0.6. In this game Westmeath went out with the mentality of keeping the score down, which may have worked to an extent but brought them no rewards whatsoever. This time we are expecting a much higher scoring game and we are tipping the games total points to go over 38.5 which is best priced with Bet 365 at 11/10. A 4 points stake is advised here.

Reading comments during the week by Tom Cribbin, the Westmeath manager may have seen sense and decided to go for it this year. He stated that "We've no chance of beating them unless we get three goals, and we don't concede a goal. That's the way we'll be planning the game, we have to get goals." Kudos has to be given to the management for taking this bold approach and I sincerely hope it pays off for his charges, but alarm bells were sounded at GAAMBLER HQ when these types of phrases were uttered. The theory behind this bet is that Westmeath will go for it and hopefully score at least one goal and put up a decent score, but leave themselves
open at the back which in most likelihood will see Dublin put up a massive scoreline, which should see the game go over 38.5 points. Dublin haven't really been firing on all cylinders yet and I expect them to be very keen in putting in a big performance for a large crowd, and if Westmeath do what they say they are going to do, the conditions will be in place to facilitate this.

The next game we preview sees a 1st championship meeting between Cork and Longford. This should provide an extremely entertaining affair, in fact in recent years you can nearly bank on any game involving the Rebel's footballers to be a high scoring end to end game, such is their inconsistency. The bet being advised here is the game to have over 2.5 goals at an astonishingly generous 11/8 with Boylesports, this is in comparison to the 5/6 being offered by Paddy Power for the same market.

Looking at both side's last number of games provides a solid grounding as to why this is quite a good bet. In the five game that both teams have played in the championship to date 4 of those have had at least 3 goals, the only game not to have 3 goals was Cork's previous game against Limerick where the Rebels scored 2 goals themselves. Longford have excelled so far this championship because of their fearless attitude and I believe they will go all out for the win like they have so far in the championship which will lead to a cracking high scoring game. A 2.5 points stake is being advised here.

Recommended bets:

Dublin/Westmeath over 38.5 points at 11/10 with Bet 365. 4 points  (NAP)

Cork/Longford over 2.5 goals at 11/8 with Boylesports. 2.5 points
